Sunday, November 8th, I returned to New
Hope Baptist Church, excited to experience another amazing ceremony. Tina was even more decked
out in jewels than the previous time I saw her at New Hope. She explained how she
was raised dreaming of “the glamorous life”. She was also taught
to love her self and know how beautiful she truly is. Hearing
Tina’s amazing voice put a smile on my face throughout the entire ceremony.
Watching her lead her choir, I couldn’t help notice her passion and love for
these people and religion. Observing her
days earlier at her work was a similar experience. Tine works at Arcade Barbers
in Nicole’s Arcade in Ann Arbor, Michigan; her coworkers and customers call her the “Queen Bee” of
the shop. While I watched her cut five or six men’s hair, each time she brought
such enthusiasm while working and had only delightful conversations with each
of them. Since the Barber Shop is so small, everyone is such a close family and continuously laugh and talk while working besides and
across from each other. From
what I have noticed so far, Tina is a very colorful individual, which is why I
chose to try something different and leave all of my photographs in color rather than
my usual black and white series that wouldn't do her justice.
